The State Inpatient Databases (SID) are part of a family of databases and software tools developed for the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP). The SID includes inpatient discharge records from community hospitals in participating states. SID files encompass all patients, regardless of payer, providing a unique view of inpatient care in a defined market or state over time.

SID data for years 2013 to 2014 for Arizona, Florida, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, and Wisconsin were purchased by Wayne State University (WSU). Potential users who are WSU personnel can request access to the purchased data by contacting the local expert. Prior to using SID data, all individuals are required to complete the online HCUP Data Use Agreement Training Tool. Other users can purchase SID data through the HCUP Central Distributor.
